L'Allegro Movement Project - Documentary Film. Created for the Luminato Festival in Collaboration with the Luminato Youth Film Crew - featuring Mark Morris Dance & Dancing with Parkinsons Group. Filmed, Directed & Facilitated by Ella Cooper
Luminato Promotion) Mark Morris Dance Group and the Toronto Dancing with Parkinson's group
In the months leading up to the Luminato Festival, dancers and teachers from Mark Morris Dance Group's ground-breaking Dance for PD® program, will collaborate with the Toronto Dancing with Parkinson’s group and local elementary school students from Nelson Mandela Park PS to create L’Allegro Movement Project.
Using thematic and structural elements from L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato as the basis for the movement creation, participants will explore the choreographic, poetic, and musical elements of Mark Morris’s signature work. Through this collaborative, intergenerational initiative, young students and participants with Parkinson's disease will be empowered to explore and celebrate the expressive possibilities of movement through dance and music.
Ella Cooper (artist, photographer & filmmaker) worked with a select team of youth filmmakers to document L’Allegro Movement Project, highlighting the creative process. Video excerpts were shown at the Sony Centre on June 21-23 and the completed short film premiered as part of the Regent Park Film Festival in the fall of 2013.
The performance of L’Allegro Movement Project featured the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir and soloists.
