Ella is an award winning multidisciplinary artist / documentary filmmaker, experienced creative facilitation, impact producer, educator and consultant who has worked in Canada's arts and culture sector for over 15 years. Ella has received continued project support from both the Canada and Ontario arts councils and has been presented in galleries, public spaces and film festivals around Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary as well as on the CBC and Bell Fibe TV1.
Ella has a Masters of Arts Education, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media and extensive training in creative facilitation and yoga. She has created a multitude of empowering, holistic and creative community centred programs for diverse groups across Canada, the United States and South Africa.
In her daily life, Ella is dedicated to community building through the arts and making films that celebrate local artists and community stories.
She has run a number of arts networks (Neighbourhood Arts Network and Emerging Arts Professional Network - founder) to support Canada's arts communities and holds a strong background in community outreach, program development, strategic planning, events management, volunteer development and social media & online strategy.
Ella is now a part-time lecturer at University of Toronto Scarborough's Art Management Program and enjoys serving as one of the lead trainers for PYE Global facilitator trainings. She has also leads a number of community film projects & youth media arts empowerment workshops with local partners that has included founding the Black Women Film! Leadership Program and partnered initiatives with TIFF, CBC, CFC, Caribbean Tales Film Festival, The Black Daddies Club, Regent Park film festival, Reel Youth, the Nia Centre for the Arts and previous collaborations with Learning Through the Arts and the Luminato Festival
Ella has made many appearances as a guest speaker for conferences & events which have included panels for the NYU Black Portraitures Conference (Florence), Arts Advocate Symposium, Canada Dance Assembly, Canadian Public Arts Funders, the Association of Cultural Executives, Technology in the Arts Conference, TAPA Trade Forum, the City of Toronto, OISE University of Toronto, International Creative Art Therapies Conference and the Dance USA conference in Washington DC.
Ella has served on the board of the Cultural Careers Council Ontario, the Creative Trust Foundation, Vancouver Arts Alliance and on juries/advisory committees for the Ontario Arts Council, Canada Council and the Dora Mavor Moore Dance Awards.
